Web developer- consulting

Title: Web developer
Location: Edmonton, AB
Duration: 12 months
Description:

Responsibilities may include, depending on project assignment:
To format and post official documents on Alberta Education and Alberta Advanced Education and Technology’s websites. To design, develop, and maintain multi-tier website applications as required, alone or as part of a project team. To liaison with clients within and outside the department and provide technical advice for web-based projects. To assist with the development and enhancement of web content management tools. To perform applications development and maintenance as required. To provide technical support, respond to user queries regarding site access and usage, and operate website monitoring tools such as WebTrends Analysis Suite and Google Analytics. To provide such other related services as may be agreed upon between the Contractor and Alberta Education and Alberta Advanced Education and Technology. Documentation of web application structures, design, and/or interface with other systems, data sources, or data extract processes.
Expected deliverables may include, depending on assignment, but not limited to: Delivery of formatted web content, posted on one of the department’s internal or external web servers, within agreed upon service levels. Management of competing requests in accordance with established department priorities and service-delivery timelines. Consultation/advice to Ministry staff on opportunities/issues related to proposed web communication initiatives, or web activity measures Reports related to resource allocation, usage, website traffic, or other matters related to the department’s websites

New applications, and revisions to existing applications to help the department’s technical and non-technical staff maintain/update dynamic website content. Identification of issues/problems that may hinder the department in reaching its web communications goals, and opportunities to improve the delivery of web content. Routine maintenance on websites, and periodic migrations of site content in response to evolving department Internet standards, changing available hardware resources, and updated technologies. Monthly reports of activity engaged in for, and on behalf of the department, as part of this engagement. Estimates for proposed development, preliminary designs, mock-ups.
General Qualifications:
The qualifications sought would be generally obtained over a minimum of four (4) years of progressive, directly related development experience. Educational background should include a University Degree or graduation from a Technical program, preferably in Computing Science or a related discipline.
Mandatory Experience/Skill Criteria:
(i) Minimum three (3) years experience formatting web content using HTML, Javascript, CSS
(ii) Minimum three (3) years experience developing web applications using ASP/VBScript
(iii) Minimum three (3) years experience developing web applications using ASP.NET (VB.NET and C#)
(iv) Minimum three (3) years experience developing web applications using ADO for Web Database connectivity
(v) Minimum three (3) years experience programming with Microsoft SQL Server
(vi) Minimum three (3) years experience programming with a desktop database such as MS Access
(vii) Minimum three (3) years experience using WebTrends Log Analysis tools
(viii) Minimum three (3) year experience using an enterprise Content Management System (CMS) to maintain website content
(i) Minimum two (2) years experience using XML, XSLT
(ix) Communication Skills: demonstrated English language proficiency including verbal, reading and written skills
Desirable Experience/Skill Criteria:
(ii) Experience using document and forms publishing tools such as Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Live Cycle Designer
(iii) Graphic/Photo-editing experience using products such as Adobe PhotoShop, or JASC Paint Shop Pro
(iv) Experience creating Windows content management applications using VB.NET
(v) One (1) year specific experience using RedDot Content Management (vi) Previous Alberta Government web development experience
(vii) One (1) year customer service experience
